UPDATE 10:45 AM:

According to the Mississippi Department of Public Safety, a Madison police officer has died of injuries sustained when he was shot at the standoff.

UPDATE 10:00 AM:

A second officer has been shot at a standoff in the Crossgates neighborhood in Brandon. We don’t have any other details at this time.

UPDATE 9 AM:
Multiple armored vehicles can be seen at the scene, along with heavy damage to the home. A robot was just brought on scene and is currently sitting in the middle of Terrapin Hill Road North.

Action can be seen toward the house, but it doesn’t seem urgent

A Brandon police officer has been shot during a standoff at Crossgates in Brandon the police say started around 2 AM.

The incident took place at a home on Terrapin Hill Road.

Brandon Police Department and the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office Department have both confirmed the standoff. Multiple agencies are on the scene now.

Brandon police said that the standoff started as a domestic dispute between a man and a woman.

When officers arrived at the home, the male suspect barricaded himself inside and took a woman hostage. After several hours of negotiations, the suspect let the woman go.

Brandon Police Department and the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office Department have both confirmed the standoff. Multiple agencies are on the scene now.

The officer’s official condition has not yet been released, though reports are positive considering the situation.

Police say the scene is still active. This is a developing story.
