A Newton County murder suspect who has been on the run was surrounded by law enforcement Wednesday when he took his own life.

The sheriff’s department says that 48-year-old Roderic Tyrone Moss died by self-inflicted gunshot in Clarke County around 3 p.m. Wednesday.

Moss was wanted for capital murder in the death of Char’dae Knowlin, whose body was found inside her home when Newton County sheriff’s deputies did a welfare check on May 30. A multiple agency manhunt was underway for Moss.

Moss had been close to capture in Jasper County on Monday when law enforcement had him in a trailer. After deploying gas to being him out, however, the trailer burned completely.

A renewed effort to capture Moss led multiple agencies to Clarke County, where he was said to be seen entering a house on Wednesday. After authorities surrounded the house, they heard a gunshot.

Drones and robot cams were employed to determine that Moss had in fact taken his life inside.
