UPDATES, THURSDAY MORNING:
BOGUE CHITTO – EMA officials say there are injuries, however Sheriff Steve Rushing reported around midnight that there were no confirmed fatalities so far in Lincoln County. The Sheriff’s Department is reporting multiple trees on the roadway with emergency crews on scene.
Officials say all lanes of U.S. 51 between U.S. 84 and Monticello Street remain closed in both directions because of downed power lines. Emergency responders are the only vehicles being allowed through the area, and officials expect the closure to remain in place for several hours.
Northbound lanes of Mississippi 583 at Douglas Trail in Lincoln County are also closed because of storm debris. Officials said all lanes are blocked in the area, and the closure is expected to remain in place for several hours as crews continue cleanup efforts.
In Lawrence County, all lanes of Mississippi 184 between U.S. 84 and Mississippi 43 are closed in both directions because of downed power lines. Officials said the roadway is expected to remain shut down for several hours while crews work to clear the area safely.
MEMA Encourages Residents to Self-report Damage from Storm:
The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency is encouraging residents to report damage from last night’s severe weather.
MEMA said residents whose homes were damaged should file an insurance claim, take photos of the damage and report the damage to their county or MEMA through the agency’s self-report tool.
Residents can use the tool by selecting their county of residence and filling out the form.
MEMA said the self-report tool is not an application for assistance.
Storm Damage Blocks Multiple Roads in Adams County; Sheriff Urges Residents to Limit Travel

NATCHEZ — Adams County Sheriff Travis Patten is urging residents to limit travel to emergencies only as crews work to clear storm damage and restore utility infrastructure across the county.
According to the Adams County Sheriff’s Office, multiple trees tangled with power lines remain down on several roads, creating hazardous conditions for motorists and emergency crews.
Utility crews from Entergy, Southwest Electric and Energy were awaiting arrival Tuesday morning to de-energize lines so debris could be safely removed. Emergency responders were already on scene working to clear blocked roadways.
The following roads remained blocked as of Thursday morning:
- Hutchins Landing Road near 800 Hutchins Landing Road
- 394 Upper Kingston Road
- South Palestine Road
- North Palestine Road
- Airport Road near Old Johnson Road
“We are asking the public to avoid all non-essential travel so first responders can work safely and efficiently to clear roadways,” Patten said in a statement. “These are dangerous conditions with live wires tangled in downed trees. Please stay home unless you absolutely must be on the road.”
The sheriff’s office said additional updates will be released as utility crews arrive and conditions improve.
Residents are encouraged to monitor local weather and emergency alerts and report roadway hazards to dispatch.

Damage is being reported from Wednesday night storms in several counties in the southern half of the state.
“Multiple tornadoes have been reported throughout Central and West Mississippi. Please continue to monitor emergency alerts throughout the night,” posted Gov. Tate Reeves late Wednesday. “The State of Mississippi is in contact with local emergency managers and first responders. The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency is currently coordinating State SAR response.

A mobile home park in Bogue Chitto is reporting heavy damage, and officials said responders are having a hard time getting into the area to work the recovery effort because of downed trees. Structural damage was also reported not far from downtown Brookhaven.
Residents of the area report trees down, power outages, and devastation to more than a few roads in the South Brookhaven, Hog Chain, East Lincoln, and Bogue Chitto communities.
Volunteer firefighters are reportedly coming from other counties to help with the storm response, and one commenter said the Cajun Navy is en route.
When the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency put out information about the storm that was on track to hit Lincoln County, they used strong language.
“A very dangerous tornado is moving across eastern portions of Lincoln County. Persons in the path of this tornado should take immediate actions to save their lives,” the Facebook post read.
The Purvis area of Lamar County has also been hit hard, and officials are asking motorists to stay out of the area.
