Today, communities across Mississippi and the nation are pausing to recognize the men and women who put their lives on the line every day to keep others safe, and we want to honor those who Step Up To Serve every day without hesitation.
October 28 marks National First Responders Day, a time to honor firefighters, law enforcement officers, paramedics, EMTs and others who are the first on scene when crisis strikes.
First established by Congress in 2019, the day serves as a reminder of the bravery and dedication shown by those who respond to emergencies large and small—from natural disasters and medical calls to fires and violent crimes.
In Mississippi, first responders play a vital role in keeping communities safe through hurricanes, floods, tornadoes and everyday crime and emergency.
We encourage our fellow Mississippians to show appreciation by thanking a first responder in person, sending a note of gratitude, or participating in local events held in their honor.
National First Responders Day is a chance to remember those who have fallen in the line of duty and to thank those who continue to serve with dedication and heart.
