A black 2008 Ford Mustang, reported stolen in 2009, was recovered from the Ross Barnett Reservoir near Lake Harbor Road on Thursday, October 24. The discovery was made by the Reservoir Police Department around 1:00 p.m., prompting a response from the Rankin County Sheriff’s Department Criminal Investigations Division.

Source: Rankin Co. SOThe vehicle was found submerged approximately 15 feet below the surface, about 50 yards away from the roadway at a boat ramp owned by the Pearl River Valley Water Supply District. Divers from the Reservoir Fire Department were called in recover the Mustang.
The investigation revealed that the vehicle had been reported stolen to the Richland Police Department over a decade ago. It has now been recovered and transported to a secure location.
The Rankin County Sheriff’s Department is continuing to assist both the Reservoir Police Department and the Richland Police Department as the investigation into the stolen vehicle unfolds.
