On Tuesday morning, Joseph Nangle was sentenced to 50 years in prison for a fatal DUI crash that claimed the lives of two sisters from New Orleans in July 2022. Nangle received 25 years for each of two aggravated DUI charges, which will run consecutively. The final five years of his sentence will be served under post-release supervision.
Nangle had previously pleaded guilty to the charges stemming from the crash, which occurred on Saturday, July 9, 2022. The tragic incident took place on Highway 90 in front of Raising Cane’s in Ocean Springs, where authorities responded to a five-vehicle collision. Multiple vehicles were on fire, and several people were injured.
WLOX reports that two victims lost their lives in the crash. They were identified as 52-year-old Mary “Julie” Kelley and her 54-year-old sister, Elizabeth “Lisa” Conners (Kelley). One died at the scene, and the other died from their injuries at the hospital.
Nangle was arrested a week later on July 16 and initially held on a $500,000 bond.
