A warrant has been issued for the arrest of Beaumont Mayor Scotty Dailey following accusations made by a local resident. According to WLOX, the Perry County Sheriff’s Office charged Dailey with simple assault by threat on Monday after an incident at a gas station in September.
According to the complaint, Beaumont resident Damon White accused Mayor Dailey of endangering his life by discharging a firearm near him during an altercation at the gas station.
WLOX reports that White filed an affidavit with the Perry County Justice Clerk’s office, leading to the issuance of the arrest warrant.
District Attorney Lin Carter explained that because Dailey holds the office of mayor, the statute of probable cause did not apply in this case. This allowed the sheriff’s office to proceed with the charge against Dailey.
The case is currently under investigation, and no further details about the incident have been released. Dailey has not yet responded to the allegations publicly.
