Langford Volunteer Firefighters apply the top-secret recipe rub to Boston Butts in preparation for pickup day.Who knows their way around a smoker better than a firefighter?
Nobody, especially if that firefighter is from Langford Volunteer Fire Department in Rankin County. Langford has made a name for themselves in a lot of ways, but one of the most recognized of their activities is the yearly Boston Butt sale.
At first meant to simply be a fundraiser, the Langford-style butts have now become a tradition in the department and almost a ritual for some who pre-order at least one every year.
In 2023, Langford firefighters produced more than 500 Boston Butts for the community during the holiday season. This year, there will be a limited supply, so pre-ordering is an integral part of the process for anyone who wants one. There will be none sold the day of pickup.
You can pre-order by visiting the dedicated website or by calling 601-825-0038. Also watch for pop-up booths at local businesses on Saturday mornings during the months of October and November.
The proceeds go to help Langford VFD with essentials such as fuel for the vehicles and apparatus, updated gear, and station bills such as electricity and water. Langford does not currently receive tax dollars, so the Boston Butt sale is the department’s primary fundraiser each year.
Make sure you order by December 2! Butts are $45 each, and there are sandwich plates available for $10 as well. Pickup is December 13 from noon – 6 p.m., and December 14 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
