The Mississippi Office of State Fire Marshal is reminding residents to install smoke detectors as temperatures begin to drop.
The State Fire Marshal used Bolivar County as a reminder that your local fire station has smoke detectors if you need any!
Bolivar County Fire Chief Jasen Norwood recently received the detectors from State Fire Coordinator Reed Abraham, and they will be installed in homes throughout the county as part of a fire safety initiative.
“Unfortunately, in Mississippi, many of the tragic fire deaths occur in homes without working smoke detectors,” said Abraham. “This simple tool can mean the difference between life and death. Our goal is to ensure every home is equipped with one, and through partnerships with fire departments statewide, we’re working to reduce the number of fire-related fatalities.”
Residents in need of smoke detectors are encouraged to contact their local fire department to arrange for installation.
This initiative is part of a broader statewide effort to ensure homes are equipped with working smoke alarms, a critical tool in preventing fire-related injuries and fatalities.
Chief Norwood and the Bolivar County Volunteer Fire Department (BCVFD) have been praised for their continued dedication to fire safety and prevention.
