A coordinated effort between local and out-of-state law enforcement agencies resulted in the apprehension of a suspect involved in a pursuit of a stolen vehicle on Sunday. The George County Sheriff’s Office responded to a request for assistance from the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office regarding the chase, which involved a vehicle stolen out of Jackson County, Mississippi.
The pursuit entered George County via Highway 98, heading westbound. As the suspect, identified as 35-year-old Robert Earl Coleman, Jr. of Moss Point, MS, approached the intersection of Highway 98 and Donavan Road, he abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. Deputies from George and Mobile counties engaged in a foot pursuit and were able to detain Coleman after a brief chase.
Coleman was held by George County deputies until Jackson County law enforcement arrived to take him into custody. He is expected to face charges in Mobile County, Alabama, related to eluding law enforcement, although no charges are currently pending against him in George County.
Sheriff Mitchell Mixon praised the swift collaboration between the agencies involved, stating that their teamwork played a key role in resolving the situation without further incident.
