The Clarke County Sheriff says an MBI investigation into a situation at his house is being done because he and his chief deputy made the decision to call the state agency in.
According to WTOK, the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation announced that it is looking into allegations of domestic violence involving Sheriff Anthony Chancellor.
In a statement, the MBI said,
“The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is investigating an incident regarding allegations of domestic violence involving the Clarke County Sheriff. Due to this being an open and ongoing investigation, no further comment will be made.”
Chancellor also issued a statement to clarify.
“There have been allegations made in reference to an incident that took place in the early morning hours of Sunday, September 22nd where I have been residing. This is a personal matter between my wife and I. In light of the circumstances, my Chief Deputy and I made the decision to call MBI to do a thorough investigation to the entire situation. I want Clarke County to know that this situation, in no way, has affected my ability to lead as your Sheriff. My family and I appreciate your support and prayers during this time.”
