UPDATE: Carly Madison Gregg was given a bond of $1,000,000. She plead not guilty.
She is now at the Rankin County Adult Detention Center.

UPDATE: According to the Rankin County Sheriff, the juvenile had been certified as an adult and has been transferred to the Rankin County Adult Detention Center. She will have an initial appearance before Judge Morrow today in the County Court. The time is at his discretion.
She was identified as Carly Madison Gregg.

A woman is dead and her 14-year-old daughter is in custody after a shooting in the Reservoir area of the county Tuesday evening.
Rankin County Coroner David Ruth identified the victim as Ashley Smylie. She was a teacher in the Rankin County School District.
A release from Sheriff Bryan Bailey states that around 5:07 P.M., the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office received a call reporting a shooting that had occurred in the 200 block of Ashton Way. Several deputies along with Reservoir Fire Department and Pafford Ambulance service responded to the address.
Once on scene, deputies met with the male owner of the residence who was suffering from a gunshot wound to the shoulder. The male victim told police that he arrived home and found his wife shot to death inside the home and his 14 year old step daughter armed with a pistol. The victim said that the suspect shot him in the shoulder. The stepfather and stepdaughter had a brief physical fight and he took the weapon from her. He told investigators that she then ran to the backyard and jumped over a fence.
Additional deputies responded to the area along with the Mississippi Highway Patrol’s helicopter. At around 5:35 P.M. Rankin County deputies located the female suspect not far from the residence and took her into custody without incident.
Based on the circumstances and evidence at the scene, the teen was placed under arrest for murder and attempted murder. She was transported to the Rankin County Juvenile Detention Center. She will appear before Rankin County Court Judge Kent McDaniel in the morning.
Bailey’s release said District Attorney Bubba Bramlett has been made aware of the case.
Rankin County Investigators are still on the scene processing it for evidence. The investigation is ongoing. The Rankin County Coroner’s Office will release the name of the victim after their next of kin is notified.
