At 10:35 a.m., the Greenville Fire Department Rescue 2 was dispatched to 323 South Washington about a residential house fire.
At the time of the call, other units were at another fire on Marico Place. Leland and Metcalf Fire Department responded to this fire to assist Greenville Firefighters.
Once on scene Rescue 2 advised Command 1 and all incoming units there was a two-story wood frame structure with heavy smoke and flames coming from the rear of the structure.
Fire personnel entered the structure in the side door of the structure and began an offensive attack. The fire started to ventilate through the roof causing it to weaken and then collapse.
Fire personnel were able to exit the structure safely and transitioned to a defensive attack.
The rear of the structure sustained heavy fire, smoke, and water damage. This Fire was in the studio area of the house which was added on.
Firefighters were able to locate the fire and stop the fire from spreading to the living area of the house.
The homeowner was able to escape the blaze with a cut hand. This fire is under investigation.
