Two armed individuals were arrested inside the East Columbus McDonalds Thursday afternoon. The restaurant is located at 937 Alabama Street in Columbus, MS.
According to Columbus Police Chief Joseph Daughtry, a person in the store saw concealed weapons being carried by a 15-year-old and a 19-year-old. Both were charged with illegally carrying of a concealed weapon.
The 19-year-old was identified as Tevis C. Turner, of Forest Blvd. in Columbus.
He is currently housed at the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center.
The 15-year-old will not be identified due to his age. A revolver and a semi-automatic handgun were both recovered.
“In Mississippi, you must be 21 years old to carry a concealed weapon, both will face charges for carrying these weapons, and they also have lost possession of those weapons. “
Chief Daughtry praised the alert person in the restaurant.
“I can’t say enough praise to the person that observed the weapons, knew something was wrong, and then alerted others, they quietly notified the police, and we responded quickly and secured the area. Alert citizens protect everyone. If something doesn’t look right, I encourage citizens to trust their instincts and call for help. If it is nothing, that is fine. We are here to help. We have taken two guns off the street and arrested two persons that ignored the law. That is serious to us,”
