JACKSON – he Jackson Police Department is warning residents about an increase in reports involving Facebook Marketplace scams, including armed robberies during in-person transactions.
Police said some victims have been targeted while meeting others to buy or sell items arranged through Facebook Marketplace.
Authorities are urging residents to avoid completing transactions in nonpublic areas, including residential streets, secluded locations and poorly lit areas.
Police recommend choosing a well-lit, public location for any in-person exchange and taking additional precautions before meeting someone they do not know.
The department said residents should remain alert and use caution to reduce the risk of becoming a victim during online marketplace transactions.
