Jackson man convicted of first-degree murder in 2023 Taylor Street shooting

JACKSON  — A Hinds County jury has convicted a 37-year-old man of first-degree murder in connection with a 2023 shooting on Taylor Street, according to Capitol Police.

LaMarkus Moore was found guilty in the death of Joseph Reddix.

Capitol Police said officers responded to Taylor Street on Feb. 15, 2023, where they found Reddix dead inside a vehicle. Investigators determined he had been shot multiple times.

Following the investigation and prosecution, a Hinds County jury convicted Moore of first-degree murder.

Judge Adrienne Wooten sentenced Moore to life in prison.

“This conviction is a testament to the dedication of our Capitol Police officers and investigators who worked diligently to ensure this case was thoroughly investigated and that those responsible for violent crime are held accountable,” Capitol Police Chief Bo Luckey said.

Luckey also thanked the Hinds County District Attorney’s Office for prosecuting the case and said officials hope the outcome provides a measure of justice for Reddix’s family.

A codefendant, Kenneth Gross, is awaiting trial and is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
