JACKSON — Nearly 2,400 Mississippians used the National Association of Insurance Commissioners’ Life Insurance Policy Locator Tool in 2025, helping locate nearly $43 million in lost life insurance benefits, according to the Mississippi Insurance Department.

The tool can help people determine whether a deceased family member had a life insurance policy they may not have known about or been able to locate.

The Mississippi Insurance Department is encouraging residents who have lost a loved one to use the locator tool to search for potential life insurance policies and benefits.

Insurance Commissioner and State Fire Marshal Mike Chaney also encouraged residents to organize their own insurance information and make sure beneficiaries know about their policies and where to find important documents and contact information.
