JACKSON – A Jackson man is facing additional felony charges after police say he assaulted several detectives while being interviewed in connection with an armed robbery investigation.
According to the Jackson Police Department, detectives were interviewing 22-year-old Cameron Mitchell around 2 p.m. Tuesday when he allegedly became combative.
Police said Mitchell headbutted two detectives, kicked one detective in the stomach and bit another. Investigators said he then headbutted one of the detectives a second time and bit another detective.
Additional officers responded to JPD headquarters and were eventually able to restrain Mitchell without further incident.
AMR evaluated the injured detectives. One detective was taken to a local hospital and treated for minor injuries.
Mitchell is now charged with three counts of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer.
Police said Mitchell had been arrested earlier Tuesday by the U.S. Marshals Service and charged with armed robbery of an individual.
The investigation remains ongoing.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Jackson Police Department at 601-960-1800 or Crime Stoppers at 601-355-TIPS (8477).
Mitchell is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
