JACKSON – An escaped parolee who fled a minimum-security facility in Madison County on Sunday was captured early Monday in Jackson after a brief vehicle and foot pursuit, according to the Mississippi Department of Corrections.
Branden Young, 38, is now being held at the Central Mississippi Correctional Facility in Rankin County.
Authorities said a Capitol Police officer spotted a black SUV without a license plate at a gas station on Bailey Avenue shortly before 8 a.m. Monday and attempted to make contact with the driver.
The driver sped away, leading officers on a brief pursuit that ended a few blocks later. Police said the driver then jumped from the SUV and ran.
He was captured on Medgar Evers Boulevard and later identified as Young.
Young now faces felony fleeing charges.
MDOC said Young had escaped from the Madison County Community Work Center about 24 hours earlier.
He was on parole for felony DUI in Rankin County but had been assigned to the technical violation center at the work center for 90 days after his parole was revoked.
Young received a 10-year sentence on Nov. 21, 2020, and was paroled June 6, 2023. His parole was revoked in August after authorities said he failed to comply with the terms.
Investigators are still working to determine how Young obtained the SUV.
“I commend Capitol Police for their attentiveness and quick response, which led to Young’s apprehension,” MDOC Commissioner Burl Cain said. “We appreciate their work and the assistance of our law enforcement partners in bringing this search to a close.”
