ORIGINAL STORY:

RESERVOIR — Reservoir Police are asking for the public’s help after a jet ski was found on the Ross Barnett Reservoir Sunday morning, with authorities working to determine whether anyone may be missing from the watercraft.

Reservoir Police received a report at about 10:40 a.m. of a black-and-lime-green 2011 Sea-Doo near Channel Marker A, just offshore from the Reservoir Tower in the main lake.

Reservoir Police and Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks officers are conducting an active search.

Authorities said they have been told the jet ski was recently purchased without ownership documents and that its registration had not been transferred to the current owner. The registration displayed on the watercraft does not identify its current owner.

Officers are checking area boat ramps for vehicles and trailers that may be associated with the jet ski. Authorities said the watercraft also could have departed from a private dock and are asking residents and visitors for help identifying its current owner or operator.

Anyone who recognizes the jet ski, knows its current owner or operator, or has a loved one who left the area Sunday morning and has not returned or cannot be reached is asked to call the Reservoir Tower at 601-992-9703.

Authorities ask people checking on a loved one to try contacting them first, but not to delay reporting information that could assist the search.

The Reservoir Tower number is a recorded emergency line. Officials ask that people call only with relevant information rather than for general updates so personnel can remain focused on the search.

The search remains ongoing.
