JACKSON — The Jackson Police Department is asking for the public’s help in the investigation of the October 2024 killing of Omar Drake.

According to JPD, detectives began investigating Drake’s death on Oct. 29, 2024, after officers responded to an area of North State Street near Woodway Drive. Drake had sustained trauma to his upper body and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Drake was initially identified by Hinds County Coroner Sharon Grisham-Stewart as a 21-year-old Brandon resident.

The case has remained under investigation.

In March 2025, Kamren Trevon Miley turned himself in to JPD headquarters in connection with Drake’s death, according to JPD, who described the case at the time as a beating death.

It is unclear from the information released by authorities what the current status of that case is.

Drake’s mother, Anita Drake, has continued to seek answers in her son’s death. In a July 2026 Darkhorse Press report, she said she had spent months contacting investigators, following leads and publicly seeking information about the case.

According to that report, Anita Drake said her son had been preparing to begin a new job after earning his commercial driver’s license and was scheduled to start work the day after he was killed. She also said he left behind an unborn son.

JPD is now asking anyone with additional information about the Oct. 29, 2024, homicide to come forward.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 601-355-TIPS (8477) or the Jackson Police Department at 601-960-1234.

The investigation remains ongoing.
