CLINTON — Mississippi Christian University has been recognized as one of the nation’s “Great Colleges to Work For” by ModernThink, an organizational development firm.
The recognition was announced Sept. 18 as part of the Great Colleges to Work For program, which surveyed about 200 colleges and universities. A total of 76 institutions received recognition for specific workplace practices and policies.
MC was recognized among medium universities with 3,000 to 9,999 students and also was named to the program’s Great Colleges Honor Roll.
The university received honors in five categories: professional development, mission and pride, supervisor/department chair effectiveness, faculty and staff well-being, and shared governance.
“This recognition would not be possible if not for the dedicated faculty and staff on our campus that make Mississippi Christian University a vibrant place to work and learn every day,” said Laura Jackson, MC chief operating officer and chief financial officer. “We strive every day to create a workplace where employees feel valued, supported and encouraged to grow.”
The survey used a two-part assessment process that included an institutional questionnaire covering employment data and workplace policies, along with a survey of faculty, administrators and professional support staff. Employee feedback was the primary factor in determining recognition, according to the university.
Stephanie Busbea, MC interim provost, said the recognition reflects the work of the university’s faculty and staff.
“This distinction reflects the dedication, expertise and care that our faculty and staff bring to our students, one another and the broader community every day,” Busbea said.
The Great Colleges Honor Roll recognizes the top 10 four-year colleges and top four two-year colleges in each institutional size category, according to MC.
Richard K. Boyer, chief culture strategist for ModernThink, said the institutions recognized this year demonstrated unity and intentional leadership during challenges facing higher education.
Christopher Weeks, an MC associate professor of medical science and director of the Honors College, said the recognition reflects what many employees already believe about the university as a workplace.
