MARSHALL COUNTY — Fourteen years after Jose Rios Moreno disappeared from Marshall County, his family is still searching for answers.
Moreno was 25 when he traveled from Mexico to Mississippi in August 2012 to take a job. According to information provided by WREG and Missingsippi.org, he disappeared later that year after reportedly spending time with his brother-in-law and others in the Lake Center area.
Moreno’s family was told he was picnicking with the group when he allegedly walked away and never returned.
His mother, Leonor Moreno, reported him missing by phone to Holly Springs Police in 2012. She began meeting with investigators from the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department in 2018.
When WREG reported on the case in April 2019, investigators said they had no suspects or leads but were offering a substantial reward for information that could help locate Moreno.
According to WREG, Moreno’s brother-in-law told his mother he did not report the disappearance because he was concerned about his immigration status.
Moreno’s mother traveled from Mexico to meet with investigators and said she simply wanted to know what happened to her son.
“I want to know that way I’m not gonna be continually living with the question: Where is he?” she told WREG through a translator.
Moreno is described as a Hispanic male. His case remains unsolved, according to Missingsippi.org.
