ABERDEEN — A 27-year-old DeSoto County woman has been sentenced to 30 months in federal prison for purchasing a gun on behalf of a person prohibited from owning guns.
Dominikka Thomas previously pleaded guilty to purchasing the firearm for Lavoris McGee, who was prohibited from possessing firearms, according to court records.
U.S. District Judge Sharion Aycock sentenced Thomas to 30 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release.
Thomas also had been indicted for allegedly lying under oath in court on behalf of McGee, according to federal prosecutors. The material provided does not state the outcome of that charge.
McGee was previously sentenced for illegal firearm possession.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives investigated the case with assistance from the Leflore County Sheriff’s Department and the U.S. Marshals Service.
ATF New Orleans Special Agent in Charge Joshua Jackson said the agency will continue targeting people who illegally obtain firearms for individuals who are prohibited from possessing them.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Clyde McGee prosecuted the case.
