SIMPSON COUNTY — The Simpson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a driver reported being followed and fired upon by occupants of another vehicle Saturday night.
Deputies responded shortly after 11 p.m. Sept. 12 to a report of a shooting involving a moving vehicle traveling northbound on Highway 541 North, according to the sheriff’s office.
The driver told 911 dispatchers that an unknown vehicle was following closely with its bright lights on and that occupants were firing weapons at the vehicle.
The driver continued toward a residence on Rock Pisgah Road, where the suspect vehicle stopped following, officials said.
Deputies evaluated the driver at the scene. The driver suffered minor cuts from broken glass caused by bullets entering the rear of the vehicle, but no gunshot wounds were observed.
Emergency medical services responded, but the driver declined transportation, according to the sheriff’s office.
A preliminary investigation found that the suspect vehicle had followed closely on Mary Grove Church Road and Blackwell Road, flashed its headlights and attempted to force the driver’s vehicle off the roadway before multiple rounds were fired after both vehicles entered Highway 541 North.
Deputies collected evidence near the intersection of Highway 541 North and Blackwell Road. The involved vehicle was towed to the Simpson County Sheriff’s Office impound yard to be secured and processed.
The investigation is ongoing.
