MONROE COUNTY — A 19-year-old Smithville man is wanted in connection with the alleged kidnapping of a 14-year-old girl who has been missing since Sept. 5, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.
David Tyler Jones, 19, is wanted on a kidnapping charge after investigators said he was seen with Rylee Crane, who ran away from home Sept. 5.
The Monroe County and Itawamba County sheriff’s offices said Crane and Jones have been avoiding law enforcement since late Sunday night.
Jones’ vehicle was found wrecked on Sipsey Trail in the Gattman community early Monday morning. Investigators said Jones and Crane fled the scene on foot.
Investigators later made contact with Jones by phone and encouraged him to return Crane to her family or face a kidnapping charge. The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office said investigators obtained an arrest warrant for Jones Thursday.
Jones is believed to be in the Smithville area.
