HATTIESBURG – Southern Pines Animal Shelter is asking for help after staff arrived Wednesday morning to find the shelter’s gate torn from its supports, leaving the property unsecured.
According to the shelter, the damage appears to have happened overnight. Staff said they are reviewing camera footage and contacting police as they work to determine what happened.
Despite the damage, the shelter said every animal was accounted for and safe.
The organization said its immediate priority is securing the property again and that a replacement gate may be needed.
Southern Pines said the incident comes at a difficult time of year for animal shelters, when resources are already stretched thin.
The shelter is accepting donations to help cover the cost of repairs and is also asking anyone with information about what happened to contact the organization.
Officials said they will provide updates as they learn more.
