CANTON — Four sisters who disappeared from Canton in 2014 remain missing, more than a decade after authorities say they were abducted by their noncustodial mother and stepfather.
Kimberly Gomez-Coronado, 6; Jackelyn Gomez-Coronado, 5; Evelin Coria-Coronado, 2; and Mendy Coria-Coronado, 1, disappeared Sept. 7, 2014, from Canton.
According to information provided by the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children and NamUs, the girls were Hispanic and had black or brown eyes and black hair. Age-progressed images have been created to show what the older children may look like today.
Authorities say the children became wards of the state after their mother, Sonia Elisabeth Coronado, and stepfather, Fernando Pelayo Coria, were arrested on child abuse and neglect charges.
According to the case information, a prosecutor said Coria severely beat the children and described their injuries as among the worst he had seen. Coronado, who faced a neglect charge, had agreed to testify against Coria.
Authorities later granted Coronado temporary custody of the children while issuing an order prohibiting Coria from having contact with them.
Instead, authorities say Coronado and Coria disappeared with the four children. Investigators believed the family fled to Mexico.
Felony kidnapping warrants for Coronado and Coria were issued Sept. 12, 2014.
The sisters’ cases remain unsolved.
Anyone with information about the whereabouts of Kimberly, Jackelyn, Evelin or Mendy is asked to contact the Canton Police Department at 601-859-2121.
