LEE COUNTY — A 15-year-old has been certified as an adult and charged with burglary and assault-related offenses following an investigation into an alleged burglary and sexual assault in the Auburn community, authorities said.
Donald McGaughy was arrested after a Lee County resident called 911 at approximately 6 a.m. Aug. 30 to report a burglary and assault at a residence in the community.
Deputies responding to the scene spoke with the victim, who identified the alleged suspect as a 15-year-old who lived nearby, according to authorities.
Deputies later located McGaughy and took him to the Lee County Juvenile Detention Center, where he was placed on a hold order by Lee County Youth Court.
On Sept. 1, McGaughy was certified as an adult in connection with the investigation, authorities said. He later appeared before a judge in the First Judicial District Circuit Court, who ordered that he be held in the Lee County Adult Detention Center.
McGaughy is charged with burglary of a vehicle, burglary of a dwelling and rape — assault with intent to ravish.
A circuit court judge set his bond at $50,000.
The case is expected to be presented to the January 2027 term of the Lee County Grand Jury.
