SENATOBIA — The city of Senatobia has appointed Lt. Angelica Maze as interim chief of the Senatobia Police Department, effective immediately, following the firing of former Chief Hal Vanderford.
Maze brings more than a decade of law enforcement experience to the position and has served the Senatobia Police Department in several roles, according to a city news release issued Sept. 2.
A graduate of the Mississippi Law Enforcement Officers’ Training Academy, Maze began her career with the department as a patrol officer before becoming a school resource officer. She was promoted to sergeant in 2022 and later served as a lieutenant.
“Chief Maze has dedicated her career to serving the people of Senatobia with professionalism, integrity, and compassion,” Mayor Greg Graves said. “Her experience, leadership, and commitment to our community make her well-qualified to guide the department during this transition.”
The city said Maze has focused throughout her career on public safety, community engagement and building trust with residents.
Maze replaces Vanderford, who was fired after racist language surfaced in text messages obtained through a public records request by a media outlet.
The city said it expects Maze to provide steady leadership as the department continues its mission of protecting and serving Senatobia residents.
