CANTON — A Canton man has been sentenced to 48 years in prison after pleading guilty to selling cocaine as a subsequent drug offender, Madison and Rankin Counties District Attorney John K. “Bubba” Bramlett announced.

Jimmy Dale McKay pleaded guilty Aug. 25 to three counts of sale of cocaine as a subsequent drug offender and was sentenced to 48 years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections.

Beginning in December 2025, narcotics investigators with the Madison County Sheriff’s Department conducted multiple controlled purchases of crack cocaine from McKay at his Canton home, according to the district attorney’s office.

A confidential informant was equipped with a covert camera during the purchases, which investigators said recorded McKay selling the drugs.

Following the investigation, authorities executed a search warrant at McKay’s residence and recovered more than 200 grams of crack cocaine, officials said.

McKay had previously been convicted of possession of cocaine in Madison County Circuit Court in 2011.

“Same song different verse. Selling to others can screw up their lives, as well as those around them. No more,” Bramlett said. “Great job by law enforcement, investigators, and prosecutors. On behalf of the citizens of Madison and Rankin counties, thank you.”
