JACKSON — The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality has issued a water contact advisory for an unnamed tributary of Trahon Creek and a section of Trahon Creek leading to the Pearl River because of an ongoing sewage bypass.
The advisory, issued Tuesday, covers the unnamed tributary and Trahon Creek from the culvert at the Interstate 55 frontage road to its confluence with the Pearl River.
MDEQ recommends that people avoid recreational water activities, including swimming, wading and fishing, in the affected waters.
A longstanding water contact advisory for the section of the Pearl River from Hanging Moss Creek to the Byram Swinging Bridge remains in effect.
MDEQ said it will continue monitoring conditions and revise the advisory as needed.
