COLUMBUS — Almost three decades after U.S. Air Force Staff Sgt. Moises Jose Figueredo disappeared from Columbus Air Force Base, the Mississippi case remains open, with federal investigators still seeking information about his whereabouts.
Figueredo, who was 42 when he disappeared, was last known to be in Columbus in January 1999. According to the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System, or NamUs, he was reported missing after failing to report for duty at his workstation at Columbus Air Force Base on the morning of Jan. 19, 1999.
His wife, Deborah Figueredo, told officials she had not seen him since the morning of Jan. 15, 1999. She said he left with a small amount of cash and some clothing, according to case information.
Investigators believe Figueredo may have left voluntarily, but he has not been seen or heard from since.
Figueredo, an Air Force air traffic controller and resource management specialist, was also listed by the Air Force Office of Special Investigations as a wanted fugitive in connection with an investigation involving allegations of flight to avoid prosecution for rape, forcible sodomy and brandishing a pistol.
The Air Force wanted notice advises the public to use caution and not approach him.
Figueredo is described as a Hispanic/Latino man standing 5 feet, 9 inches tall and weighing between 136 and 140 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes.
He would now be 69 years old.
The circumstances of Figueredo’s disappearance remain unclear. His case is listed in NamUs as Missing Person No. MP38218, and the Air Force Office of Special Investigations remains the investigating agency.
