HARRISON COUNTY – Multiple fire departments responded to several lightning-related emergencies along the Mississippi Coast early Thursday morning, including a house fire in the Windance subdivision.
According to Harrison County Fire Rescue, a storm system moved through the area with frequent lightning, and several homes across the Coast were struck.
Around 2:30 a.m., Harrison County Fire Rescue, CRTC Fire crews and the Gulfport Fire Department responded to a two-story home in the Windance subdivision after it was struck by lightning.
Firefighters arrived to find heavy fire showing from the home.
The residents were able to escape safely and no injuries were reported.
Harrison County Fire Rescue said the Windance fire was one of multiple structure fires reported across the Coast after lightning strikes during the storm.
