JACKSON – Jackson police are investigating the city’s 54th homicide of the year after a man was found shot inside a vehicle that had crashed into a ditch near Interstate 220.
Police said Precinct 2 officers responded Thursday to I-220 near the Highway 80 West off-ramp after receiving a report of a vehicle that had left the roadway.
When officers arrived, they found a tan Ford Crown Victoria in a ditch and discovered the driver, identified as Bobby Potts, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
AMR personnel arrived and began emergency medical treatment, but Potts died before he could be transported from the scene.
Witnesses told police they saw the vehicle drifting off the roadway before crashing. Police said none of the witnesses reported seeing the shooting or the person or people responsible.
No arrests have been announced.
