MONROE COUNTY — A Verona-area man has been arrested on multiple felony charges after investigators say he fired dozens of shots into a Wren Community home occupied by seven people, including four young children.
Kevin Rashad Crawford Jr., 37, was apprehended earlier this week in Lee County by the U.S. Marshals Task Force after Monroe County sheriff’s investigators issued warrants for his arrest in May, authorities said.
Crawford is charged with possession of a weapon by a felon, shooting into an occupied dwelling and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
The shooting happened during the early morning hours of May 19 at a home on Mississippi 45 North in the Wren Community, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responding to a report of shots fired found a male victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the arm. Six other people were inside the home, including two females and four young children. None of the women or children was injured, authorities said.
The victim was taken to a hospital and released later that day.
Investigators found nearly 40 bullet holes in the home and gathered enough evidence to obtain arrest warrants for Crawford, the sheriff’s office said.
Authorities later determined that Crawford was evading investigators and other surrounding law enforcement agencies. The case was turned over to the U.S. Marshals Task Force, which located and arrested him in Lee County.
“We could not have done this without the help of the U.S. Marshals Task Force,” the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office said. “They are truly an asset to local law enforcement agencies throughout the state who don’t have the manpower, resources, training nor jurisdiction to hunt down these fugitives once they go on the run.”
Crawford is being held in Monroe County on a $150,000 bond and also has a hold from the Mississippi Department of Corrections, authorities said.
