MADISON — A Madison man was sentenced to 43 years in prison after investigators searching his cellphone in a drug case found hundreds of videos depicting child sexual abuse material, authorities said.
Madison and Rankin Counties District Attorney John K. “Bubba” Bramlett announced that David Yonathan Orozco, 30, was sentenced Aug. 17 to serve 43 years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections.
Orozco pleaded guilty to five counts of possession of child pornography and one count of possession of methamphetamine shortly before his trial was scheduled to begin. He entered the plea without a sentencing recommendation from the state.
The investigation began Dec. 23, 2025, when Madison police stopped a vehicle that was swerving out of its lane. Orozco, the driver and sole occupant, consented to a search of the vehicle, where officers found what authorities described as a felony amount of methamphetamine.
After Orozco’s arrest, investigators obtained a search warrant for his cellphone and found hundreds of videos depicting child sexual abuse, along with messages exchanged with other individuals involving child pornography and discussions about finding a child to sexually abuse, according to the district attorney’s office.
Orozco was later indicted on the six charges.
He will be required to register as a sex offender upon his release from prison.
Bramlett praised the Madison Police Department investigators and prosecutors who worked the case, saying the investigation into the traffic stop led authorities to uncover crimes that otherwise might not have been discovered.
“I am so thankful for the dedicated men and women at the Madison Police Department who investigate every case fully,” Bramlett said.
Bramlett specifically thanked Madison Police Department Investigator Eric Mallery and Assistant District Attorneys Katie Moulds and Ashley Allen for their work on the case.
