FLOWOOD — Golfers, sponsors and donors are being invited to participate in this year’s Flowood Mayor’s Cup Golf Tournament and Silent Auction, with proceeds benefiting the Children’s Advocacy Centers of Mississippi.
The annual charity event, which includes a four-man scramble golf tournament and silent auction, will be held at The Refuge Golf Course. Sponsorship applications are due Sept. 1, welcome bag promotional items are due Sept. 9, team registrations are due Sept. 11 and silent auction donations are due Sept. 14.
Organizers said several levels of participation are available, including sponsorships, golf teams, silent auction donations and promotional items for welcome bags.
The tournament has been a Flowood tradition for more than two decades. Established in 2002 by former Mayor Gary Rhoads, the Mayor’s Cup brings together businesses, organizations and community leaders to raise money for charitable organizations and causes.
Mayor Kathy Smith now continues the event’s tradition of community service and charitable giving. Each year, proceeds benefit a nonprofit organization selected by the mayor’s office.
Since its inception, the tournament has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for organizations and causes including The Mustard Seed, the Gabby Strong Foundation, breast cancer research initiatives, Breakthrough T1D and Children’s Advocacy Centers of Mississippi.
This year’s beneficiary provides support and resources to Mississippi’s network of child advocacy centers, which serve children who have experienced abuse and help coordinate the response among law enforcement, child protection workers, prosecutors, medical professionals and other agencies.
According to Children’s Advocacy Centers of Mississippi, 9,490 child abuse victims received services at a child advocacy center in 2025. The organization also reported that 5,053 professionals received training to respond effectively to child abuse cases, while its staff provided 1,782 hours of expert support to Mississippi’s 15 member child advocacy centers.
In addition, 193 students and professionals participated in case simulations through the organization’s Child Advocacy Training Institute.
Organizers encouraged businesses, golfers, volunteers, donors and other supporters to take part in the September event and help support children and families across Mississippi.
