LAFAYETTE COUNTY — One person was killed and another was critically injured in a single-vehicle crash Thursday afternoon on County Road 103, according to the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office.
The crash was reported at about 4:07 p.m. Aug. 14 near an intersection on County Road 103. Deputies arrived to find a vehicle that had been involved in a collision and began removing the two occupants.
The Lafayette County Fire Department and Baptist EMS responded and provided emergency medical aid.
The driver, Cole Johnson, 19, of Abbeville, was pronounced dead at the scene by Lafayette County Coroner Glenn Coleman.
A passenger, Joe Johnson, 19, of Abbeville, was taken by helicopter to Regional One Medical Center in Tennessee. He was listed in critical but stable condition, the sheriff’s office said.
The Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Division is investigating the crash. Authorities said the crash appeared to involve only one vehicle and no foul play is suspected.
The investigation is ongoing.
