SIMPSON COUNTY – A burn ban is in effect for Simpson County through Sept. 1, according to the Mendenhall Fire Department.
Officials are asking residents to avoid all open outdoor burning while the ban remains in place. That includes burning leaves, brush, yard debris and other materials.
The fire department said dry conditions can allow even a small fire to spread quickly and urged residents to use extra caution with anything that could create a spark or start a fire.
Officials said the restrictions are intended to help protect homes, property, firefighters and the community.
Residents are encouraged to follow the burn ban until it expires Sept. 1.
