DERMA – A Derma woman is accused of helping her son avoid arrest while he was wanted on an active felony burglary warrant, according to Derma Police Chief Peeples.
Peeples said Camilla Penson had allegedly been protecting her son, Jakourious Penson, while officers with the Derma Police Department and Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office made multiple attempts to locate him at her residence on Lawrence Drive.
According to Peeples, Camilla Penson was warned that she could face charges if she was caught hiding a fugitive.
Peeples said her response was allegedly, “I don’t care.”
Authorities said Jakourious Penson remained wanted on the felony burglary warrant during those attempts to locate him.
The chief did not immediately provide details on whether Camilla Penson has been formally charged or whether Jakourious Penson has since been taken into custody.
The case remains under investigation.
