WILKINSON COUNTY – A fugitive wanted in multiple Mississippi counties was captured Thursday night following a coordinated law enforcement operation in Wilkinson County.
Justin Tyler Marcum was taken into custody on Buffalo Road after allegedly attempting to evade officers, according to the Adams County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities said Marcum had avoided several previous arrest attempts over the past several months.
The operation was led by the Wilkinson County Sheriff’s Office with assistance from the Woodville Police Department and the Angola Chase Team, which specializes in tracking and apprehension.
Deputy O.J. Packnett of the Wilkinson County Sheriff’s Office led the investigation with assistance from Woodville Police Chief L. Rutledge.
Marcum had been entered into the National Crime Information Center database and was wanted in Adams and Franklin counties on burglary-related and other charges, according to the sheriff’s office.
In Wilkinson County, Marcum faces charges of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, burglary, motor vehicle theft, assault and resisting arrest. Authorities said he also faces a second firearm possession charge.
The Adams County Sheriff’s Office placed a hold on Marcum for an outstanding burglary warrant.
Sheriff Travis Patten said the arrest showed the importance of cooperation among agencies across county lines.
“No matter how long it takes, law enforcement will continue working together to bring fugitives to justice,” Patten said.
The investigation remains active, and additional charges are possible.
