LEE COUNTY — The Lee County Sheriff’s Office is inviting the public to participate in a memorial run honoring fallen School Resource Officer Deputy Rick Haggard while helping support his family.
According to Lee County Sheriff Jim Johnson, the Rick Haggard Memorial Run will be held Saturday, Aug. 29, 2026, beginning at 7:30 a.m. in Tupelo.
Haggard died Feb. 2 after suffering a medical emergency shortly after 3 p.m. while serving as a school resource officer. Johnson said the sheriff’s office has been overwhelmed by the support shown by the community since Haggard’s death.
“Since that day, many people have asked how they could help,” Johnson said. “Today, we’d like to share an opportunity to honor Deputy Haggard’s memory while supporting his family.”
Proceeds from the event will help Haggard’s wife and children travel to Washington, D.C., during National Law Enforcement Memorial Week, when his name will be added to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial.
Johnson encouraged both law enforcement agencies and members of the public to participate.
“Whether you’re part of a law enforcement agency entering as a team, or an individual who simply wants to show your support, we invite you to join us,” he said. “Your participation will help honor Deputy Rick Haggard’s life, service, and sacrifice while standing alongside the family he loved so deeply.”

Johnson thanked the community for its continued support of Haggard’s family.
“Thank you for helping us ensure that Deputy Haggard’s legacy will never be forgotten,” he said.
