PEARL RIVER COUNTY — Three people were arrested following a narcotics investigation that led to the discovery of firearms, methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia at a Picayune-area residence, according to the Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department.
Investigators with the sheriff’s department’s Narcotics Division made contact with 34-year-old Matthew Culpepper on July 14 on Leo Eaves Road near his residence. Deputies said they observed a firearm tucked into his waistband and knew from prior encounters that he was a convicted felon.
Matthew Culpepper was arrested on a charge of possession of a weapon by a convicted felon. A hold was also placed on him by the Mississippi Department of Corrections.
While investigators were at the scene, 59-year-old Dennis Culpepper, of Leo Eaves Road, and 38-year-old Emily Ledet, of Carriere, approached officers from the residence. Investigators said information gathered at the scene established probable cause for a search warrant.
While deputies were obtaining the warrant, Dennis Culpepper allegedly attempted to flee on foot but was apprehended.
During the search of the residence, investigators said they found numerous firearms, drug paraphernalia and methamphetamine in a room determined to belong to Dennis Culpepper.
Dennis Culpepper was charged with possession of a controlled substance while in possession of a firearm, fleeing law enforcement and disorderly conduct.
Emily Ledet was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.
Sheriff David Allison said the department remains committed to keeping firearms out of the hands of convicted felons and removing illegal drugs from Pearl River County. He also commended members of the Narcotics Division for their work on the investigation.
