SHUQUALAK — A warrant has been issued for a woman in connection with a July 4 shooting outside a Shuqualak café that left another woman wounded, and investigators believe the suspect has fled to Nebraska.
Sherika Yates is charged with aggravated assault in the shooting, which wounded Brendasha Bryant, according to the Noxubee County Sheriff’s Department. Yates had not been arrested as of Wednesday, and investigators believe she has left Mississippi and may be in Omaha, Nebraska, the department said.
The shooting followed a series of altercations outside the Bee Hive Café on Constantine Street between about 2 a.m. and 2:30 a.m. July 4, investigators said. During one of the incidents, multiple shots were fired.
An altercation between Bryant and Yates ended with Bryant suffering a gunshot wound to her upper right arm, according to the sheriff’s department. Investigators said they established probable cause based on evidence and witness statements, and a warrant was issued for Yates.
The investigation is active and ongoing, and additional arrests may be made, the department said. The sheriff’s department said it is working with the district attorney’s office and the U.S. Marshals Service to locate and apprehend anyone wanted in the case.
