JACKSON — The Mississippi Farmers Market will hold its final weekday market of the year Wednesday, giving shoppers an additional opportunity to purchase fresh, locally grown produce and other Mississippi-made products.
The market will be open from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday, in addition to its regular Saturday hours of 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Commissioner of Agriculture and Commerce Andy Gipson said the extra market day is intended to improve access to fresh food while supporting Mississippi farmers.
“The additional weekday market makes it easier for Mississippians to shop local and enjoy fresh, healthy food,” Gipson said. “It benefits both our farmers and the families who depend on access to affordable, locally grown products.”
While supplies last, vendors will offer seasonal fruits and vegetables, along with jams, jellies and peanut and pecan brittle.
Gipson said the weekday market also provides another opportunity for participants in the Women, Infants and Children and Senior Farmers Market Nutrition programs to use their benefits to purchase fresh, Mississippi-grown fruits, vegetables and honey directly from authorized vendors.
Products grown, made or processed in Mississippi and sold at Mississippi Department of Agriculture and Commerce Certified Farmers Markets are exempt from state sales tax.
The Farmers Market Café, located inside the Mississippi Farmers Market, is open weekdays from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Genuine MS Store is open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays.
The Mississippi Farmers Market is located at 929 High St. and is open year-round on Saturdays.
