RIDGELAND – A birthday celebration turned into an opportunity to help local families after a group of friends donated homemade birthday cake kits to the Ridgeland Police Department’s Blessing Box.
Source: Ridgeland PDInstead of asking for gifts, birthday celebrant Susan Rockoff invited her friends to assemble cake kits for Stewpot, a Jackson-area organization that assists people in need.
After making more kits than expected, the group donated the extras to the police department’s community Blessing Box.
Each kit includes a baking pan, cake mix, a can of soda, icing, candles and other celebration supplies. The soda can be used in place of eggs and oil when preparing the cake.
Police said the donation could help families celebrate a loved one’s birthday even when money is tight.
“Acts of kindness like this impact our community,” the department said in a social media post.
The Ridgeland Police Department thanked Susan Young and the other friends who participated and wished Rockoff a happy birthday.
