WAYNESBORO — Authorities are working to identify a woman whose body was found floating in the Chickasawhay River in Wayne County, and preliminary autopsy results indicate she died accidentally, the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office said.
Deputies, investigators and Sheriff Jerry “Juice” Mosley responded July 6 to a 911 call from boaters who reported a body in the river about seven-tenths of a mile south of the Highway 184 boat ramp, west of Waynesboro, according to a news release.
Preliminary autopsy results indicate the cause of death was accidental, the release said. “There are no signs of foul play according to the autopsy,” Mosley said.
Identifying the woman will require DNA testing because of the condition of the body, Mosley said. The testing will be conducted by the Mississippi Forensics Laboratory and is expected to take several weeks.
“Until then, we have no information regarding the female,” Mosley said.
