UPDATE: According to an update from the Vicksburg Police Department regarding the death of a 14-year-old male that occurred Thursday morning in the 400 block of Farmer Street:
During the course of the investigation, investigators recovered the firearm believed to have been used in the incident. Based on the evidence gathered thus far, the gunshot wound is believed to have been self-inflicted.
The investigation remains active as investigators continue processing evidence.
The Vicksburg Police Department extends its deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of the juvenile during this difficult time.

VICKSBURG — A 14-year-old boy died after being shot in the head early Thursday morning in Vicksburg, police said.
Officers with the Vicksburg Police Department responded around 4:30 a.m. Thursday, July 9, to the 400 block of Farmer Street after receiving a report of a shooting.
When officers arrived, they found the juvenile suffering from a gunshot wound to the head.
The teen was transported to a local hospital for emergency treatment, and AirCare was requested because of the severity of his injuries. However, the boy died while being transported, police said.
Investigators are continuing to process evidence, conduct interviews and work to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
The victim’s identity has not yet been released.
