NATCHEZ – A family of three safely escaped a house fire early Sunday morning in Adams County.
Deputies with the Adams County Sheriff’s Office responded around 3:01 a.m. July 5 with the Natchez Fire Department and other emergency responders to a residential structure fire in the 35 block of Field View Drive.
Adams County E-911 received a report of a house fire with occupants inside the home. When first responders arrived, they found the residence heavily engulfed in flames.
Authorities said the occupants, a husband, wife and their 11-month-old child, were able to escape before emergency personnel arrived. No injuries were reported.
Due to the nature of the fire, Southwest Mississippi EPA and Atmos Energy were notified to assist with utility and environmental safety concerns.
Firefighters with the Natchez Fire Department worked for several hours to bring the fire under control and prevent it from spreading to nearby structures. Deputies with the Adams County Sheriff’s Office remained on scene to assist with traffic control, scene security and the safety of emergency personnel.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the appropriate fire authorities.
Sheriff Travis Patten praised the quick response of first responders and said he was grateful the family escaped safely.
“We are extremely thankful that this family was able to get out of the home safely before the fire completely consumed it,” Patten said. “This incident serves as an important reminder of how critical working smoke detectors and a family emergency escape plan can be. We are grateful for the outstanding response by the Natchez Fire Department, Adams County E-911, Atmos Energy, Southwest Mississippi EPA, and everyone who worked together to protect lives and property.”
The Adams County Sheriff’s Office asked the community to keep the family in their thoughts and prayers as they begin recovering from the loss.
